2D Scanner

Contex IQ Flex

The Contex IQ Flex is a low-profile, easy-to-use 2D scanner that’s perfect for smaller engineering drawings. It scans up to C-size drawings, which are 18x24”, and this machine easily fits on top of a table in your engineering offices.

This 2D scanner uses CIS technology, which offers more reliability and consistency that your engineering department needs. It has a built-in controller and simple touchscreen, so you can fully operate the scanner with the touch of a few buttons.

Since there are no rollers on this scanner, it’s ideal for especially delicate drawings, like legacy drawings on Mylar that can’t afford to get ripped or damaged.

To make things even better, the Contex IQ Flex allows you to digitally mark up drawings in real time during the scanning process. You can then print the edited document, or create a copy and print the original drawing in no time. With the Contex IQ Flex at your fingertips, your digitization workflows will be dramatically expedited.

Features and Benefits

Large-Format Scanning That Works for You

Every scanner that Contex offers has an obvious focus on making your life easier as an engineer. Contex knows about the all-too-familiar struggle of dealing with cabinets filled with legacy hand drawings, and the Contex IQ Flex is one of their many options that can solve this problem. Any department with hand-drawn engineering drawings can benefit from the Contex IQ Flex, since it seamlessly integrates into your office space and runs with no problems. This scanner is designed to work for you, not the other way around. All of the buttons are easy to read, the prompts are simple, and you can use it with or without a connected computer.

The Perfect Flatbed Scanner

In the past, flatbed scanners seemed to fall a bit short. Old-school scanners ran into reliability problems, annoying size limitations, and a lack of power. However, the Contex IQ Flex is nothing like those old scanners. This flatbed scanner has the same functionality and versatility as a scanner twice its size.

  • Expedite document scanning. Document scanning is incredibly simple and quick with the Contex IQ Flex.
  • Treats legacy drawings with care. With no rollers or damaging feeds, the Contex IQ Flex can keep your delicate legacy drawings damage-free.
  • Edit and print files in minutes. With its attached touchscreen, you can edit your engineering drawings and send them to a compatible printer within minutes.

Great Quality

A 2D scanner is only as good as its final resolution and quality. A lot of engineers use 2D scanners in an effort to digitize or convert their old drawings into 3D CAD, which requires a high-quality image. The Contex IQ Flex delivers quality that you wouldn’t expect.

  • Resolution up to 9600 dpi. Thanks to the next-generation NextImage software, you can achieve files with up to 9600 dpi.
  • No performance degradation. Feel free to use the Contex IQ Flex around the clock, 24/7, since its advanced CIS technology does not degrade over time.
  • Send files via Wi-Fi, USB, or Cloud. Finished files can be sent wireless, directly to a flash drive, or stored on a Cloud for your convenience.

Great for Any Engineer

The Contex IQ Flex is incredibly versatile and low-profile, making it a great option for any engineering department. Plus, its affordability means that you won’t have to overpay to start digitizing your files.

  • More affordable option. Other 2D scanners that offer comparable performance as the Contex IQ Flex can easily cost thousands of dollars more.
  • Easy to use for beginners. The onboard touchscreen will guide you through every process, further simplifying the 2D scanning process.
  • Works fast. You won’t have much wasted time with the Contex IQ Flex, since it effortlessly scans and sends your files in seconds.

More About This Technology

2D scanners using Contact Imaging Sensor (CIS) technology tend to be more reliable and easier to maintain. In this technology, there is no image size reduction with a lens at all, as there is in CCD 2D scanning. With CIS scanning, a number of tiny fiber optic sensors are installed in a grid that transfers information from the scanned image into the scanner in a 1:1 scale.

This simpler setup removes all ability for distortion from a lens and it removes the need for images to be stitched together in order to create the final file. In addition, you won’t have to worry about calibrating cameras or specifying a depth of field.

However, Contex has solved a lot of the shortcomings associated with CIS scanners — largely the lack of color and potential for added noise during scanning — through their sophisticated NextImage software. The software uses a revolutionary algorithm to optimize every 2D scan you make.

The scanning process for a CIS is no different than a CCD 2D scanner. To scan, you would place your drawing on the scanner, choose what file format you’d like the output to be, and hit the “go” button. The scanner will capture all of the visual data through those fiber optic sensors. The scanner’s software will compile all of the information, generate a digital version of your drawing, and then create the output file you specified.
