2D Scanner

Contex IQ Quattro X

The flagship IQ Quattro X series from Contex is the go-to 2D scanner for any industrial-grade application. This is a CIS scanner that works with NextImage 5 to provide up to 9600 dpi of full-color scans. The IQ Quattro X comes in four different configurations:

  • IQ Quattro X 3650
  • IQ Quattro X 3690
  • IQ Quattro X 4450
  • IQ Quattro X 4490

The first two numbers of the name denote the maximum scanning width in inches, and the last two digits denote the scanning speed. The 3650 and 3690 both offer 36” scanning widths while the 4450 and 4490 accept up to 44”. The 3690 and 4490 both offer scanning speeds that are twice as fast as the 3650 and 4450.

However, all four of these scanners are built on the same architecture and boast the same features. In the end, the Contex IQ Quattro X is an incredibly fast, high-quality, large-scale 2D scanner that can digitize your whole room full of legacy drawings.

This platform has a few speed enhancements and reliability improvements over the less-expensive HD Ultra X series. As a result, the Contex IQ Quattro X is poised as the best 2D scanner for industrial applications. If you need to scan thousands of documents, it’s hard to find a better option than the Contex IQ Quattro X.

Features and Benefits

Large-Format Scanning That Works for You

For high-production, high throughput, large-format 2D scanning, the Contex IQ Quattro X is the best option on the market. This mighty scanner gets to work in seconds, and can scan hundreds of drawings a day with ease. It integrates directly into your existing digitization workflow, replacing most of the equipment and software that you’re currently using. In the end, you’re left with a scanning station that can exceed your productivity goals and digitize your entire room of legacy drawings in no time.

Fastest 2D Scanning

While the Contex IQ Quattro X does a lot of things well, it’s hard to understate how fast this machine is. It puts 99% of the scanners to shame with the ability to scan up to 17.8 inches of documents per second.

  • Scan speed of 17.8 ips. With faster scanning speeds, you’ll finish the full digitization project sooner, allowing your engineers to work on other projects.
  • Don’t waste time with calibrations or setups. To use this machine, just plug it in and hit the scan button — it’s that simple.
  • Use ScanStation to maximize your results. With an attachable computer, your Contex IQ Quattro X can do even more.

Quality You’ll Appreciate

Other 2D scanners on the market will force you to choose between speed, accuracy, and repeatability. With The Contex IQ Quattro X, you get all three. Contex has put a lot of work into optimizing their scanning technology, and the IQ Quattro X is a testament to that.

  • High-quality imagining. Each scan can achieve up to 9600dpi — with higher qualities like this, your 2D to 3D conversion will be more accurate and easier.
  • Can run 24/7 without issues. Contex machines are resilient and durable, so you can operate them around the clock without any loss of quality.
  • One setup for countless scans. You only need to do one setup before scanning your full batch of drawings, saving time on each document.

Perfect Way to Convert Legacy Drawings

Whenever we talk to an engineering department and hear that they keep a room full of legacy drawings, we immediately recommend a Contex 2D scanner. The Contex IQ Quattro X can digitize your full collection of drawings in a fraction of the time.

  • Digitize your collection. A digital collection of engineering drawings is the best practice for any modern engineering company. The Contex IQ Quattro X helps you achieve this.
  • Protect your IP and designs. Hand drawings are susceptible to theft, damage, and environmental decay over time. Keep your designs safe by digitizing with the IQ Quattro X.
  • Quicker sharing, manufacturing, and selling. Scanning documents with the Contex IQ Quattro X will help almost every department within your manufacturing or design business.

More About This Technology

2D scanners using Contact Imaging Sensor (CIS) technology tend to be more reliable and easier to maintain. In this technology, there is no image size reduction with a lens at all, as there is in CCD 2D scanning. With CIS scanning, a number of tiny fiber optic sensors are installed in a grid that transfers information from the scanned image into the scanner in a 1:1 scale.

This simpler setup removes all ability for distortion from a lens and it removes the need for images to be stitched together in order to create the final file. In addition, you won’t have to worry about calibrating cameras or specifying a depth of field.

However, Contex has solved a lot of the shortcomings associated with CIS scanners — largely the lack of color and potential for added noise during scanning — through their sophisticated NextImage software. The software uses a revolutionary algorithm to optimize every 2D scan you make.

The scanning process for a CIS is no different than a CCD 2D scanner. To scan, you would feed in your large-format engineering drawings, choose what file format you’d like the output to be, and hit the “go” button. The scanner will move your drawing using rollers, and then capture all of the visual data through those fiber optic sensors. The scanner’s software will compile all of the information, generate a digital version of your drawing, and then create the output file you specified.
