3D Printer

EP-M260 Metal

The EP-M260 Metal is a high-quality 3D printer that creates parts that are nearly 100% metal by volume. It’s a great way to replace traditional CNC machining, delivering functional prototypes and production-grade parts at a fraction of the time and cost. Your engineering department might use the EP-M260 to fully replace the process of using an outside machine shop to get your parts fabbed.

Looking at the EP-M260, you’ll quickly realize why this is such a powerful machine to have in your facility. With an incredibly powerful dual-laser setup, this machine can work with a wide range of metals. With more material options, you can work on a wider range of projects.

The EP-M260 is incredibly easy to operate, and it takes all the guesswork out of 3D printing. Metal 3D printing can be a tricky process to learn, but the EP-M260 makes it seem easy. We’ve worked with engineering departments that had no prior 3D printing experience, but they started creating high-quality metal parts with the EP-M260 the same day that it was installed.

With this metal SLM 3D printer, you’ll achieve perfect 3D-printed parts out of metal.

Features and Benefits

Industry-Preferred Functionality and Reliability

The EP-M260 is an industry-preferred metal 3D printer, just like the other options that EP makes and sells. What makes this machine so special? It was designed for engineering departments just like yours. It has added safety features and an industrial-grade shell that will blend into your operations. Of course, every EP 3D printer has reliability and functionality that will exceed your expectations. These printers fit into your existing workflow while streamlining the full production process.

Efficient Operation

As an engineer, you probably put a lot of focus into achieving efficiency. With the EP-M260, efficient operation is the default state of this machine. You’ll find a number of features that result in a smooth and optimized 3D-printing process.

  • Optimized recoating. Recoating is the process of adding a new layer of metal powder for the next layer, and the EP-M260 optimized this process to minimize waste and how long the process takes.
  • Optimized oxygen levels. Metal SLM printers are highly reliant on having the perfect amount of oxygen so each layer is accurate and precise. The EP-M260 perfectly regulates how much oxygen is in the chamber at all times.
  • Powder recycling. Any wasted powder is money down the drain, but the EP-M260 has a streamlined powder recycling process that saves most of the scrap powder and reuses it.

Unique Access Door

Accessing your parts during or after a print is a tricky process, since there are safety hazards within the build chamber. With EP’s line of industrial 3D printers, a unique access door is a standard offering. This door lets you interface with your parts in the safest way possible.

  • Alarms when the door is abnormally opened. The doors are sealed to keep the oxygen levels correct, and the EP-M260 has alarms on the door to detect early opening so you know if anyone is touching your parts before they should be.
  • Glovebox access without opening the door. With this built-in glovebox, you can access your parts without opening the door and breaking the seal or disturbing the operating temperature.
  • Double-locking to keep you safe. To keep you safe from the metal powder, heat, and gases used in the build chamber, the door of the EP-M260 is double-locked.

Faster Production or Prototyping

With the EP-M260, you can make a metal prototype or final part in a fraction of the time. The whole process is optimized, and it is usually a lot faster than if you were to have a traditional machine shop build the same part.

  • Expedite your time to market. For new production parts, printing with the EP-M260 can get your part to market faster than your competitors.
  • Non-stop operation. The EP-M260 allows for non-stop printing, even during filter changes or other maintenance tasks.
  • Make metal prototypes easier. Making a prototype out of metal has never been easier than it is with an EP metal 3D printer.

More About This Technology

Selective laser melting (SLM) metal 3D printing is the newest form of 3D printing that is reserved almost exclusively for industrial applications. These printers are more expensive to purchase and have higher operating costs, but they create parts made out of pure metal. A bed of metal powder sits directly under a high-powered laser on an XY (2-axis) gantry.

When the laser shines on the powdered metal, the metal fuses together and becomes molten, then solid. The head of an SLM 3D printer will move around the bed of metal powder, fusing together your part one layer at a time. The bed then moves down a little, a new layer of metal powder is applied, and the laser continues working on the next layer. This continues until your part is finished.

After the part is fused together, it goes into an oven to cure and get rid of any additives in the metal powder. After some time, you’re left with a part made completely out of metal.

SLM Metal 3D printers rival traditional CNC machining, and the end result can be seemingly identical. However, it’s much faster, typically more affordable, and can run 24/7 with very little supervision, unlike a machine shop.

You can find parts made from SLM Metal 3D printers in almost any industry. Wherever CNC machining is used, SLM Metal printing can be the substitute. Examples include the aerospace, automotive, medical, industrial, and defense industries.
