2D Scanner

Contex HD Apeiron/42

The Contex HD Apeiron/42 is the newest and most exciting 2D scanner to hit the market. Designed originally for scanning works of art, this contact-free 2D scanner is the most delicate way to get lifelike digital copies of your legacy hand-drawn engineering drawings.

By all accounts, the Contex HD Apeiron/42 is a professional-grade 2D scanner that can handle your largest and most involved scanning projects. As a CCD scanner, it offers superior file quality and scanning speeds that are unmatched. The HD Apeiron/42 further positions Contex as the global leader in 2D scanning.

How is this different than other Contex scanners? The two main differences are this scanner’s speed and the fact that it’s a non-contact scanner. Other scanners on the market feature rollers that grip your engineering drawing and feed it through the scanner. With the Contex HD Apeiron/42, your drawing is placed on a conveyor belt that safely moves your drawing with no added friction, grip, or contact.

Some people might hear “conveyor belt” and imagine this is a slow process. In fact, the Contex HD Apeiron/42 is one of the fastest scanners on the market, offering scan speeds up to 6 inches per second (ips) at maximum quality 600dpi full-color scans. The speed only increases with lower quality or just greyscale scans.

Needless to say, the Contex HD Apeiron/42 has quickly become the go-to scanner for companies looking to digitize legacy drawings in bulk. For a quick way to handle your drawers of E-size drawings (or smaller), consider the Contex HD Apeiron/42.

Large-Format Scanning That Works for You

When it comes to high-speed, high-quality, large-format 2D scanners, it doesn’t get better than the Contex HD Apeiron/42. This is the latest and greatest option from Contex — a company built with the goal of making your scanning experience as easy as possible. The Contex HD Apeiron/42 will fit seamlessly into your existing workflow, and it will dramatically speed up your operation. It’s easy to use and simple to set up, meaning that the scanner will start working for you in no time.

Delicate on Your Prints

If you’ve ever worked with very old hand drawings, you know how delicate they can be. A simple swipe the wrong way can tear your drawings and irreversibly damage them. The Contex HD Apeiron/42 avoids any potential for damage to your delicate prints.

  • Non-contact 2D scanning. As the best non-contact 2D scanner on the market, the Contex HD Apeiron/42 will make sure your drawings stay in one piece.
  • Perfect for old and ripped drawings. How many drawings do you have with tears in them already? Some might even be taped up in an effort to protect them. This scanner is perfect for drawings that you don’t want to damage.
  • Preserve your legacy work. Digitizing is only acceptable if the legacy drawing stays intact. The Contex HD Apeiron/42 keeps your drawings preserved.

Speed Up Your Digitization

Digitization is a trend we’ve seen a lot in the last decade. People are turning their hand drawings into PDFs and ultimately 3D CAD files, and that all starts with a 2D scan of the original drawing. This process is sped up with a Contex HD Apeiron/42 at your disposal.

  • Blazing fast scanning speeds. With scanning speeds upwards of 6 ips, you can have a full E-sized drawing digitized in less than 8 seconds.
  • The best way to digitize. Digitizing with a camera and emailing yourself the picture has become completely obsolete with this industrial-grade 2D scanner.
  • Convert legacy drawings to 3D CAD easily. With your legacy drawing scanned, you can start the 3D CAD conversion process, helping your sales, engineering, production, and installation departments.

Easy to Use

With the Contex HD Apeiron/42, all of the guesswork of 2D scanning has been taken out. It’s really as simple as putting a drawing on a conveyor belt and pressing one button. Whether you’re brand-new to 2D scanning or have decades of experience (like our team does), you can easily use this machine.

  • Great for beginners. With zero previous experience, our interns used the Contex HD Apeiron/42 to digitize thousands of drawings in a matter of weeks — and you can, too.
  • Very little room for error. The Contex HD Apeiron/42 is almost entirely autonomous, taking away most of the potential for mistakes.
  • Just hit “go”. In most cases, you can start scanning dozens of documents with a single press of a button.

More About This Technology

A Charged Coupled Device (CCD) 2D scanner works just like your digital camera. The scanner itself has a lens that will reduce the scale of your image, which allows it to fully fit within the imaging sensor. Unlike your digital camera at home, a Contex scanner that uses CCD has an incredibly high-quality imaging sensor.

This allows the 2D scanner to capture high-quality, full-scale, color images of each drawing you scan, with even wider color space as compared to other 2D scanning technology. For large-format 2D scanning, the onboard camera might stitch together multiple images to create your final product. Through this technology, you’ll get image quality that is orders of magnitude better than CIS 2D scanning, with 64,000 shades of grey as compared to 256 shades offered by CIS scanners.

With a CCD scanner, environmental noise is much less impactful to the final quality and look of your scanned images. With a CCD 2D scanner, the operation is the same: you would feed in your large-format engineering drawings, choose what file format you’d like the output to be, and hit the “go” button. The scanner will move your drawing using its conveyor belt, and then capture a series of images with its sensors. On the backend, the 2D scanner will stitch together all of the images into a single, seamless image and send it in your desired file format.
