3D Printer

CraftBot Flow IDEX XL

When it comes to desktop FDM 3D printers, the CraftBot Flow IDEX XL is one of the best options across the market. It’s a high-quality printer that offers a massive build volume and incredible reliability, thanks to the IDEX framework.

It offers two extruders that can print two parts in parallel or mirror, cutting your printing time in half. The second extruder can also simplify how your printer handles supports, or add a secondary material to your parts.

This printer offers a strong, steel-reinforced frame which gets rid of machine chatter and vibrations that would otherwise ruin your prints. The motors are driven by a powerful motherboard that makes each print even quicker.

The CraftBot Flow IDEX XL is a great addition to any engineering office. It’s a desktop unit that can fit comfortably on a spare table in the room, or a dedicated printing area within your machine shop. In either case, this machine is really easy to use and it can cut countless hours out of your production workflow.

Another great addition to the CraftBot Flow IDEX XL is its color touchscreen. All of the buttons are clearly labeled and the screen features instructions to help you with every step of printing.

Features and Benefits

An Easy-to-Use 3D Printer that Fits Your Engineering Budget

The CraftBot Flow IDEX XL is one of the easiest printers to use, even if you have no previous 3D printing experience. You can start prints with a single click, monitor their progress remotely, and rely on the added sensors and features to keep everything running smoothly when you’re not in the room. The touchscreen tells you exactly what to do, and the bed levels itself and calibrates automatically. The result? A 3D printer you don’t even need to think about. You just give it an STL file, and it does the rest of the work.

Perfect for Any Engineering Department

The CraftBot Flow IDEX XL is made for engineering departments just like yours. This machine will keep up with your printing demands, but won’t waste any of your time or resources. It’s a printer that can silently run in the background while your team focuses on other design tasks.

  • A no-nonsense printer. This printer is designed to be self-sufficient and aims to never waste your time. It’s a great option to keep in the engineering office or fab lab.
  • Compatible with multiple materials. Thanks to its wide operating temperature range, the CraftBot Flow IDEX XL can handle more materials than standard consumer-grade 3D printers.
  • Easy to install anywhere. This simple desktop 3D printer can be installed anywhere, as long as you have enough space on a desk. It can integrate into your existing workflow very easily.

Reliability and Repeatability

Two factors that engineers care about when it comes to 3D printing are reliability and repeatability. In other words, you need a printer that will always run when you need it, and you need parts that are dimensionally identical no matter how many you make. The CraftBot Flow IDEX XL is great at both of these criteria.

  • Works every time you need it. You can go weeks without using the CraftBot Flow IDEX XL (though we doubt you will), and it will fire right up and start printing for you.
  • No annoying updates or service tasks. You never have to worry about updates, annoying maintenance, or time-consuming service tasks to keep this machine running.
  • All-metal extruder. The all-metal extruder has much higher reliability and longevity over hybrid extruders that you find on other FDM 3D printers.

Incredible Speed

3D printers are typically a much faster way to make parts, and the CraftBot Flow IDEX XL speeds things up even more. Its faster motherboard and dual extruder setup save you time on every print.

  • Fast print speed. With print speeds up to 200 mm/s, you can get parts done faster and start testing the final parts even sooner.
  • Faster motherboard and processor. The brains of the CraftBot Flow IDEX XL have been fine-tuned with precision and speed in mind.
  • Startup is a breeze. Before each print, all of the setup is automated to save you time between prints.

More About This Technology

Fused deposition modeling (FDM) is one of the most common forms of 3D printing, and it’s largely used by hobbyists and DIYers. It has a special place in industrial settings as a low-cost way to make presentable 3D parts. You might use an FDM printer to create a scaled model home, an aesthetic representation of the final part, or a non-load-bearing component.

FDM works through an extruder on an XYZ (3-axis) gantry. Solid plastic is pushed against a hot nozzle which turns the plastic molten. The molten plastic is then carefully applied to the bed of your 3D printer. The 3-axis gantry will move around in X and Y, drawing a single layer of your 3D model. When it’s done, the nozzle will move up in the Z direction and create a new layer directly on top of the previously-extruded layer. This process continues until your full 3D-printed part is completed.

FDM printers are not used for load-bearing applications due to the weakness of the plastic material, and the weak points between each layer of the print. Even a small cyclic load can easily cause failure between layers.

You might find FDM-printed parts in the aerospace, medical, and consumer goods industries.
